Happy Tales: some of our success stories
HANK
Carmen was adopted by the
McInnis Family “It's been almost 1 1/2 years since we adopted Hank. As you (Richard) suspected, he was the perfect match for us and our four year old grandson. They have become best buds, so much so that neither can stand to be without the other for long. I've even taken Hank over to the elementary school and introduced him to Connor's pre-K class and they all got along great. Although he is the best dog we've ever had, he's still something of a chewer, but not as bad as he was at first. He has gone through quite a few toys and some shoes and clothes in spite of the fact that every time he walks in from outside, we hand him a cowhide chew bone. But with him, the pluses out weigh the minuses, so, for the most part, we overlook his bad habits as he does ours. Anyway, thanks again for everything.”
KELSEY (formerly Boomer)
Kelsey was adopted by
Trisha Reavis. "
Boomer/Kelsey is doing great. He and Oliver love to play and wrestle as I had hoped. They are still working on their jealousy issues but otherwise have a great time together. Things about Kelsey that you may not have known….. He loves to cuddle – we cuddle every morning in bed after breakfast. He thinks he is a lap dog – he lies on the couch with me and puts his head on my shoulder and falls asleep. He snores. He is a fast learner – he can do “down” and is working on his heeling skills. He loves vegetables and fruit – I've given him frozen green beans and carrots. He could eat himself to death, so veggies help keep him healthy. The apple was an accident when I dropped a grocery bag. He is afraid of my camera – I'm not sure how you got the other great pictures, but he is afraid of my camera. I've yet to get as good of a picture as Ursula and Mark.”
CARMEN
Carmen
was adopted by the Donaldson Family.“Carmen is still very much a part of our family. In fact, we now have a 17 month old little boy and he and Carmen are inseparable. Here are a couple of pictures we took during the holidays. The first one was on our Christmas card, along with a picture of Ben, our little boy. The second one was a few months ago, but shows how close they are always. We really appreciate what it is you are doing with STLRR. Hope you have a wonderful 2008.”
MASON
Mason was adopted
Jack Hodges . Jack sends regular updates on Mason and his new brother, Max. He is truly living the good life of a Lab.
His new Dad spends most days working from home, which allows plenty of time for early morning trips to the “big pond” at the farm. When not exhausting themselves by swimming in the pond or running the trails at the farm, Mason and Max might spend an afternoon splashing in the pool, enjoying a wrestling match/game of bitey face by the fire, chasing anything thrown for them to retrieve in the “back back” or just lazily lounging around the
house.
The M&M brothers also think trips to town in the cab of the truck beside Jack are just plain good fun. Mason's leash manners have greatly improved at Jack's instruction and he and Max have become fast and bonded brothers. Max is working on teaching Mason about good toy etiquette, but Mason thinks it's more fun just to shred ‘em.
Mason has completely healed from his surgery to remove his mast cell tumor and moved on to an amazing new life. Lucky dog!
JOSHUA (now BEAR)
Bear was adopted by the Walds. He has become a travelin' man – spending his summer traveling in an camper trailer to Wyoming, Montana and jetting by private plane to Colorado. They report that he is the perfect passenger and sleeps most of the trip. “He loves road trips.” He still loves chasing dragonflies, still likes to put his paws up in your lap, and adores swimming in the water. Bear is in HEAVEN in the water and very loved by his forever family.
CLADDAGH (formerly Buster)
Adopted by the Lester Family, Claddagh – now this dog could be a model!
“This is a normal day in the life of Claddagh. We go for a 1/2 mile walk every morning. We also do a lot of sleeping. I think he would make a great DELTA dog…. OH, something else, he does not like the water. We have tried to explain to him that he is a water dog. We have shown him his web toes but he won't buy in to the whole hose in the backyard thing.
He's my bud and we love him."
MADDIE (formerly the puppy Maddison)
Adopted by the Murphree Family. “Adopting Maddie has proved to be one of the best decisions we have ever made. Everybody adores her - she is a loyal and loving companion, and quickly fit herself in as an integral part of the family. She is very smart, playful and sociable (both with people and other dogs). She loves to play catch with a tennis ball , retrieve, swim and run. She and I run (jog) every morning, and she, my wife and I walk almost every evening, and she eagerly looks forward to both. She sits, stays, comes (most of the time), drops items and leaves items on command. The only problem, and usually it is not a real problem, is that she sometimes thinks she is a lap dog, and at 80 pounds, she is a load! We are so glad we found her with STLRR.”
And STLRR is so proud of what a beautiful girl she grew into!
KEELA formerly Maggie Mae
Adopted by Diane and Dan Parisian. “ Keela became a part of our family April Fool's Day 2006. Her new brother Wiley (a 9 yr old yellow lab) fell in love on their first visit and so did we. After the adoption, we saw our 9 yr old lab turn into a puppy again as he tried to keep up with his new sister. They put on a wrestling show at least once a night for us. It is so entertaining that even after 1 1/2 years, we still stop and watch. Keela was full of puppy energy and therefore was perfect for our latest hobby- backpacking. She even has her own backpack. We can't imagine another dog fitting us all so well. She is precious and sweeter than can be imagined. Thanks to STLRR and the wonderful volunteers that save these animals that then bring so much love to our life.”
BRIGGS
Adopted by Susan Hobernicht. Briggs was adopted in July of this year and calls home San Antonio, Texas. As the photos clearly show – this boy has a fantastic life!
