HALO Fund
Helping Abandoned Labradors Overcome
Our HALO Fund was established several years ago when we received an email from a donor stating that his friend's beloved Labrador, Hunter, had passed away and the man's friends wanted to donate to STLRR in memory of Hunter. The Mission of the Fund is to support "out-of-ordinary" vetting expenses which the Rescue is not able to afford from the daily operation budget, and therefore allow us to Rescue and Rehome Labs that we otherwise would not have been able to save.
SADIE was one of these dogs in need. She was in excrutiating pain and was almost unable to walk when an STLRR volunteer saw her at the high-kill shelter, yet she was so sweet and gentle that our volunteer rescued her. Soon after her arrival our program, we discovered that the only way for her to have a happy healthy life was to have a tightrope surgery, otherwise Sadie would be "unadoptable" and seriously handicapped. Thanks to our HALO fund and the extraordinary support of many volunteers who nursed Sadie back to health, she is now pain-free and thriving in her adoptive family. |
In April 2009, Mesa developed serious complications (including gastric bleeding) related to his heartworm treatment and his life was in jeopardy. Once again, the HALO fund, along with an outpour of extraordinary loving support, Mesa won his battle. After complete recovery, mesa was adopted by the one family who wanted him from the beginning of his endeavor and waited for him. Now, Mesa enjoys regular personalized SPA days....and extensive naps with his brother, Baloo the cat. |
